Mark K. Roos, MSW, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Southern Connecticut State University, with a focus on providing direct clinical services to individuals and families. Mark has been working directly in the social work profession since graduating with his Bachelor of Social Work degree (BSW) from San Diego State University in 1978.
Mark has 40+ years of experience working in the Social Work profession providing direct services working in community mental health agencies. He has over 20+ years of providing direct clinical services. He has maintained a private practice since 2003. In addition to his private practice and working in community-based mental health agencies, he worked with Veterans, the homeless, "high-risk" youth, and in a residential substance abuse center.
His area of expertise includes providing therapeutic counseling to families, couples, and individuals with a focus on effective communication, divorce, effective parenting, fatherhood/male issues, and anger/conflict management. As well as working with stress, anxiety, and depression. Mark especially enjoys working with divorce issues and working with men. Mark has been a Parenting Education Program (PEP) facilitator in Connecticut since 2003. PEP is a 6-hour court ordered parenting educational workshop for divorcing parents and/or parents with child custody issues.
Mark uses an eclectic multidimensional approach tailored to the unique needs of the client. Mark approaches therapy as a journey of discovery. He views his role as that of an "expander'' exploring new options, and choices and growing in a positive and healthy direction. As a therapist he's considered ethical, patient, an excellent listener ( a cornerstone of therapy), and in accepting each client as a unique individual with specific individual needs. He has a "laid back" approach to his work, embraces diversity, is open-minded, yet is excellent at setting boundaries and being tactfully direct.
Mark has excellent international and cross-cultural sensitivity and perspectives. He was born aboard a ship in the Java Sea while traveling to Holland. Living there for 6 years before immigrating to the United States, before he moved back to Europe, living in Paris, France, for four years. Upon graduation from the American School of Paris, he joined the US Navy as a medical corpsman. With an Honorable discharge, he began his educational journey. This international experience has provided him with a fundamental love and understanding of diversity, the differences in cultural values, and a genuine respect of working with people. Mark considers it an honor and privilege to work in this profession.
